Video and Photo Work

The following video largely references an essay on the relationship between the Bauhaus and Domus in the uses of emotion in theory and design. That essay, “Bauhaus and Domus: Technology and Emotion in Art, Architecture, and Design,” can be read on the website for deeper explanation and source citations. My main intention was to attempt to convey historical knowledge in a shorter, but still heavily researched manner to entice broader audiences beyond historians proper.

This video focuses on Gio Ponti’s Via Dezza apartment. Completed in 1957 and the last of Ponti’s residences, Via Dezza is a compendium of the design and architectural work of the Italian architect’s decades long career. Indeed, for that reason, Gio’s daughter Lisa coined it a “demonstration house.” In this video, I examine the historical legacy and significance of ten objects in the apartment’s living room. I focused on Ponti’s design philosophy as it transformed along with Italy – from fascism to reconstruction and the economic miracle – to explain Ponti’s decor choices for his last home.

I created this short video for students wanting to pass the GED exam, prepare for college, and develop their English through The Learning Connection, a service organization located in Juneau, Alaska that offered free education and workplace services to communities across the Southeast panhandle.

I created these advertising images during my work at The Learning Connection.
